BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

The region is dominated by dry lichen-moss tundra. Lakes have few waterfowl, but numbers of nesting and non-breeding geese is high. Arctic foxes with cubs occupied less than 5% of dens, but numbers of adults were high. Isolated pairs of ruff-legged buzzards (0.06 pairs/sq.km) and Arctic Squas (0.03 pair/sq.km) nested. Wandering Long-tailed squas were frequent, but snowy owls -rare. In spite of the early spring reproduction of waders took place in usial calendar dates. Usial for this area density was demonstrated by Grey Plover, Ringed Plover, Temminck's Stint, Dunlin, less than average were abundant Golden and Lesser Golden Plovers, Little Stint, Ruff, Red-necked Phalarope. Occasionally were met Eudromias morinellus, Wood Sandpiper, Common Snipe, Gallinago stenura and Limnocryptus minimus. Breeding conditions for waders and waterfowl considering for predation rate and weather conditions are evaluated as average or worth than average.

Rodent dynamics:

The pronounced depression of lemmimngs was noted.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance

Summary of fauna studies:

Censuses and surveys of arctic fox dens at an area of 70 sq.km., transect counts of birds in principal habitats, search and standard description of nests.
